Environment Policy 4 of the Strategic Plan requires protection of bats under the Wildlife Act 1990. The condition was imposed to ensure a bat survey is undertaken prior to roof works to avoid endangering the species. The submitted survey satisfied this by confirming no roost and providing mitigation if bats are found.

Conditional No ObjectionThe Ecosystem Policy Team can confirm that the Manx Bat Group’s Bat Survey Report for Cathedral Isle of Man dated July 2023, is all in order and that a suitable level of assessment has been undertaken.; The Manx Bat Group found no evidence of bats and so concluded that the works can commence without compensation measures being required.; the bat group advised that the slates should be removed by hand and the workforce be made aware of the potential for bats and therefore the need to make checks for bats throughout.
