Dear Debbie,
RE: PROPOSED LANDSLIP CATCHFENCE, THE OLD END CAFÉ, LAXEY
Further to our previous letter report detailing the stability of the existing slope and potential
remedial options for the proposed development, we understand that the catchfence option is the
preferred solution for the development.
The rock cut itself is unlikely to require significant stabilisation, and therefore rock
anchoring/bolting on a 1.5m x 1.5m grid, adopting 2m long anchors, is considered a reasonable
allowance. If the face is reinspected once the cut is made, this requirement can be reviewed and
amended or omitted as required.
The enclosed figures show the indicative general arrangement of the proposed catchfence and rock
bolts, together with the proposed extent of the works. It is also apparent that most of the proposed
cut to form the development area will be into rock.
The proposed catchfence would be installed into the bedrock at the top of the proposed cut, to
protect the development against future failures in the shallow soils overlying the rock.
It is important that the fence extends the full length of the proposed development to ensure that all
areas will be suitably protected. The fence may, however, be staggered to suit the site boundary and
individual property layouts.
A typical detail of the proposed solution is also presented below:
