Memo produced 06.01.2017 Representation from the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) Highways Division- PA Ref 16/01360/B Applicant Mr Chistopher & Mrs Andrea Worsfold Agent - Arch-Tec (IOM) Ltd Site Address Cliftonville Cottage Fistard Port St. Mary Isle Of Man IM9 5PQ Highway Services Comment made Oppose Highways Representation history for this case. O on 06/01/17 Conditions (if any) The proposal is to construct a garage on an existing driveway. The driveway varies between 8.8m and 9.2m in length sufficient to accomodate 2 parked cars. The proposal is to erect a garage over the rear parking space and leave the front of the driveway for a parked car. The internal length of the proposed garage is 4.4m, below the standard of 5m; this will leave a driveway length of 4.3m and 4.7m, below the 6m required in front of a garage; this can be reduced to 5m if the door is a roller door as proposed. The existing arrangement allows for 2 cars to be parked without obstructing the footway; the proposal provides 2 substandard parking spaces. The garage will accomodate the classic car, however it is too short to accomodate many modern cars and is unlikely to be used in the future for car parking. The remaining driveway is below the minimum standard required for parking a car and is so short that a parked car may extend beyond the driveway and obstruct the footway. The proposal will result in the removal of 2 off road parking spaces and will result in the provision of parking spaces that are unlikley to be used for parking cars or will result in an obstruction to pedestrians.
