Planning application 15/01087/B Proposed alterations to approved garage at Thie Vane, Truggan Road, Port St Mary,
Objection to said Planning application by owners Kevin & Moira Brookes of neighbouring and adjoining property Cronk Mooar, Truggan Road, Port St Mary.
The aforementioned planning application is objected to on the following grounds:
The proposed alterations submitted are for two buildings - a garage and a new garden room. This alteration comprises a development of much larger dimensions than that previously approved. The proposed new development has the appearance of a detached bungalow. This is not in keeping with the original application and constitutes overdevelopment of the garden site.
The proposed new development has three large windows, one double patio door, and one standard size door overlooking our property and garden. This intrusion into the privacy that our house has had for over 100 years is unacceptable. It will considerably adversely affect the value of our property and our enjoyment thereof. Our garden, which is played in on a daily basis by our grandchildren, will be completely overlooked and overshadowed by this development. The elevation of the land is such that it would be impossible for us to reduce the impact of being completely looked over. Our enjoyment of our own land will be lost.
We are very concerned about the surface drainage runoff from the proposed development. The plans show the provision of four water buts with 'overflow' facility. It also shows a proposed new storm drain to soakaway alongside our boundary wall. As the ground falls away very steeply on our side of the boundary wall we are very concerned about flooding of our garden and house. Much of the area proposed for development is rock and suitable drainage is therefore not possible.
We are avid bird watchers and have this year seen a welcome recovery in the number of house sparrows, blackbirds, and butterflies in our natural habitat. The loss of habitat caused by the over intensive development of the footprint to the property of Thie Vane must be considered an unnecessary threat to our local wildlife.
