Re: 20/00602/B Installation of replacement windows at 21 Kensington Road Douglas Isle Of Man IM1 3EP

The above application has been considered by Douglas Borough Council subsequent to which the Council has concluded to raise an objection on the following points and would kindly ask that these are taken into consideration when determining this application.

The application site is clearly within one of the town’s conservation areas and as such any work such as the replacement of windows, particularly windows that will alter the traditional appearance of the property from the front elevation should be undertaken in a sympathetic manner and where possible be in keeping with the existing windows.

The Council would kindly ask that consideration is given to Environment Policy 35:

Within Conservation Areas, the Department will permit only development which would preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Area, and will ensure that the special features contributing to the character and quality are protected against inappropriate development.

The Council is of the opinion that the replacement windows are not in keeping with the appearance of the property neither do they preserve or enhance the character of the building and as such the Council is of the opinion that the application should be refused.
