The Ecosystem Policy Team is not content with the submitted landscaping information.
The shrub bed (area G) which is to be planted immediately adjacent to the boundary sod bank includes the plants cotoneaster and crocosmia. All species of cotoneaster are considered invasive non-native plant species which are included on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, as is Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora (montbretia). Planting in this location is likely to lead to their spread into the wild which would be an offence. These plants must therefore be removed from the planting list.
Rosa rugosa is also included in the herb bed planting list, and though not included in Schedule 8, is considered invasive, and so we recommend that it is removed from the planting list.
The native hedge (I) and tree planting (K) mixes are appropriate for the site.
In regards to the gabion baskets/hibernaculum (A), though we approve of the idea of this, unless the intention is to retain and connect the sod banks to the new gabion baskets, we are not sure this will be used as a hibernaculum due to its location between a herb bed, a patio and an area of artificial grass (features that are not suitable for lizards). It is likely that the stone and sod hedge (H) to be created/repaired along the eastern boundary will be more appropriate as a hibernaculum.
Best wishes
