We renovated this tiny property for our daughter to live in, in 2014. We had outline planning for it with our whole site development in 2007. We should have applied for the full permission in 2014, when we started developing it, but were very busy and did not think we would ever use it for anything other than for our children. The building, we think, was an old shpherd's hut, used for itinerant workers. We have put the first floor back to its original level, used the old Manx slate off the Farmhouse, put in a shower room, samll garden room and patio. We now seek retrospective planning as we would like to use the building for Tourist use, not just our family, as our children have left home and it is so beautiful. We apologise for not seeking planning permission first and hope you will look favourably on this application as is adds to our already popular portfolio of tourist accommodation. It does fill a gap in the market as a small, romantic getaway, ideal for staycation market and for visitors from the UK.

Building Control officer, Stewart McLaren, came out to give us advice on the building on 3rd March 2020. He suggested adding a 'misting system' to make the first floor escape safe. This will be done as soon as movement is allowed, it is quoted for and on the list. Mr. McLaren took photographs and will get back to me if there are additional issues. We have had a satisfactory electrical safety test on the property.
As the building is entirely within our walled garden, with no neighbours, and has been renovated sympathetically, we hope this application will be acceptable to you. We have recently finished rebuilding the gaps in the broken walls (dry stone walls) around the garden and this cottage adds to the whole effect beautifully. We have reused as many materials as we possibly can from the old buildings.
