PLANNING APPLICATION 18/00323/C 10 MALEW STREET, CASTLETOWN APPROVAL REQUESTED FOR USE OF EXISTING SHOP AS OFFICE ACCOMMODATION EVIDENCE STATEMENT BY CASTLETOWN SECURITIES IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION.
We as the owners of the retail unit would be in favour of renting it out as a shop, but we have found that after the last tenant was forced to close down some years ago, we have had no viable interest from businesses wishing to relocate or open a new business in this position.
We have applied and received approval for alternative uses as a Dental surgery and as a Restaurant, which we hope might still have a possible attraction for a tenant, but we have had no interest to date.
We feel that there are office type uses which would operate satisfactorily in a shop unit, such as estate agencies and insurancebrokers, amongst others, and when all things are considered it is better to have a building being used than standing empty, and adding to the vitality of the town.
The proposed use would also provide employment in the Town, and customers for the existing shops.
The use we are proposing in this case might be for a short term and hopefully it should revert to its former use in the future. It was after all the Town Cinema at one time, so adapting uses to the times is quite common.
