PLANNING COMMITTEE SECRETARY'S OFFICE
22 JAN 1988
Dear Sir,
87/4259 - Change of Use to Offices, 1 Castle Street, Castletown
At the last meeting of the Commissioners it was agreed that the following views be submitted in respect of the above application:
"It was recommended that the application be refused on the grounds that the loss of any established retail space within the centre of the Town would be detrimental to the amenities of the area. The Commissioners are also of the opinion that the property is not suitable for conversion to offices due to the size of same and there could be problems regarding the provision of car parking spaces required."
Yours faithfully,
Administrative Officer.
C. C. Magee, Esq., Secretary, Planning Committee, Dept. of Local Government & the Environment, Government Offices, DOUGLAS.

Dear Sir,
Planning Application No 87/4259: Change of use to offices, 1, Castle Street, Castletown.
With reference to the above application my Trust wishes to draw the Committee's attention to the fact that this building is registered (No 69) by the Department of Local Government and the Environment as being of historic and architectural importance. It is also situated within the Conservation Area designated by the same authority.
My Trust endorses these views and seeks assurance that the proposed works will be sympathetic to the status of the building and that the original external appearance of the building and any extant original internal fittings are retained and restored.
Yours faithfully,
S. Harrison

Dear Mr. Callow,
Further to our recent telephone conversation I would confirm that Royal Life Insurance International Ltd., Bridge House, Castletown, currently rent ten reserved car spaces in the main car park, and that at present all reserved spaces have been taken.
The Commissioners however have recently reached agreement with the Dept. of Highways, Ports & Properties regarding the use of the Umber Quay for parking and I understand that when this area is available a number of the reserved spaces in the main car park will no longer be required by Royal Life.
As your name is first on the Waiting List for two reserved spaces the Commissioners hopefully will be in a position to offer you same in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
Town Clerk.
Mr. & Mrs. R. G. Callow, 1 Castle Street, CASTLETOWN, Isle of Man.
