## Athol Park Guest House: Proposed Kitchen Extract Arrangements

### Notes:
- The existing extract arrangement was installed for the previous owner.
- The proposed extract arrangement is fitted with twin cleaners and a "high velocity cowl", which spills the exhaust gasket up 15m to 10m.
- The proposed installation is designed to give a noise of less than 30dB A.
- The cowl needs to start just above the gasket height (1.8m to the top of cowl from Ground Level).

Dear Sir/Madam

Planning Application 21/00277/B

Athol Park Guest House

Athol Park

Port Erin IM9 6EX Application to extend existing extractor Athol Park Guest House Athol Park Port Erin Isle of Man IM9 6EX The following is in addition to the pro-forma that had limited space for my comments. I refer to the above application dated 30th March 2021 although the applicants letter is dated 15th March 2021.

I reside at Fairfield Athol Park Port Erin the adjoining property. The application is to erect an industrial extractor from the current extractor located in the window as shown on the attached photographs. Such extractors are known to create noise as stated in the application; this is in addition to the smells from the cooking. The property is located within a residential area (a recognised 'Home Zone' and proposed conservation area) and is, in addition to the use as a guesthouse, a 30+ seater restaurant. The restaurant will be open 7 days a week and will be in use until 9.00 p.m. every evening.

I also enclose a photograph of the extractor from the Chinese take-away on Glen View Terrace and Ms Kelly of 2 Glen View Terrace has reported the noise and smells emanating from that flue and other associated noises from the commercial kitchen.

The applicants state that the new flue is for the benefit of the neighbours but being a commercial kitchen such a flue may be necessary to comply with other environmental issues. The prevailing wind would blow fumes and transmit the noise directly towards my home and I would hear the noise and smell the fumes inside and outside my home.

Athol Park Guest House does not have anywhere to store commercial bins within their boundary and their boiler flue immediately adjoins my rear courtyard. The current fire escape for residents I am sure does not meet current safety standards but that is for the fire officer to decide.

Athol Park is a proposed conservation area and there is limited parking on Athol Park. From the very outset, the applicants have not considered their neighbours and in the initial application for additional use as a restaurant failed to display the notices in accordance with the planning laws.
