Site

A new playing field development is proposed in field 433109, for which Planning Approval has been granted.

The boundaries to field 433109 comprise Manx Sod Hedges. The Manx Sod Hedges are earth structures, with dense vegetation of brambles and grass with battered loose laid stone walling to some faces and heights of the order of 1.5m high.

Playing Field Development

The project comprises reprofiling of the existing sloping ground level to form two plateaus for senior and under 11/12 football pitches.

Artificial cricket wicket and practice nets are to be provided, together with a grasscrete road on the south east entry to the field and a 3.0m high perimeter fence inset from the Manx Sod Hedge field boundary.

A geothermal array is to be installed below finished ground level below the football pitches.

Protection Measures

Manx Sod hedges within the Contractors working area shall not be disturbed by the works, except for the hedges to the temporary field access and those above services, as identified in Curtins Method Statement for Reinstatement to Manx Sod Hedges.

The Contractor shall induct all operatives on site as to the requirement to prevent disturbance to the Manx Sod Hedges and the protection measures, which are to be adopted.

The risk of disturbance to the Manx Sod Hedges could arise form plant contacting the hedges and from materials and equipment stockpiled against the hedges.

The earthworks cut and fill area does not generally extend to within 5m of the face of the Manx Sod Hedges, except for isolated locations and the Manx Sod hedge abutting the existing school playing field.

Protection Measures continued

Hence for construction activities greater than 5m from the face of the Manx Sod Hedges the Contractor shall be cognisant of the need to maintain a 5m distance from the Manx Sod Hedge, but no special demarcation is considered necessary.

For construction activities within 5m from the Manx Sod Hedge face, the Contractor shall specifically plan his operations with site operative induction prior to the work, to prevent plant contacting the hedges, plant must not oversail the hedge, generally the plant to work from the hedge in the direction away from the hedge .

Materials and equipment shall not be leant against the Manx Sod Hedges. No operatives shall not traverse over any hedges.
