# Barn Justification Letter

To whom it may concern

As you will see from the attached photographs, we have a fair amount of machinery which is not being improved by having to live outside. The hay making and general field maintenance equipment was previously housed at another site which is no longer available. We would like to erect the barn at Ellan Farm as this is where we reside and where the machinery needs to be used the majority of the time. This machinery is for personal use to make fodder for our own livestock and maintain our fields. The original surviving farm buildings have been turned into stables and domestic garages by previous owners and are now being used by us for that purpose. We have chosen the site of the barn as sympathetically as possible given our location and to minimise visual impact on our neighbours. We have also positioned it adjacent to the existing farm building for aesthetic reasons and so we can fence behind it and maintain maximum grazing. The site we have chosen is less visible as it is screened by a copse of trees and our existing buildings and does not require any new access from the road or fields. The position of the barn ensures as much protection as possible from the prevailing wind (SW) and the roller doors will be protected when in use. We previously gained approval for a similar barn at Palm Cottage, The Curragh, Ballaugh, IM7 5BL but due to a change of circumstances, we moved prior to building this. We wish to provide the same protection for our equipment at our new home.
