# Officer Planning Report 03/00663

## Continuation Sheet **APPLICATION No. 93/663** **Page of** **Refused 14-03** The considerable architectural interest and attraction of Athos street arises, at least in part, from the rhythm of the fenestration; the proposed treatment of No. 33 would lose this rhythm and would not enhance the building. **Note:** In the absence of full annotation, it is difficult to make a full assessment of the submitted drawings. **a. Consultation with the Dept.'s** **B** **conservation officer is recommended.** General Report Site Visited ☐ YES ☑ NO 33 Atrol Street is a fairly modern building (1960's?) that resides amongst late Georgian / Regency buildings, including 29-31 which are registered. Whilst unasshamed modern, the building nevertheless continues the rhythm of the construction of it's elderly neighbors. The proposal is our opinion, would lose this rhythm and not be an enhancement to the building. In general, the treatment is 'non-describes' not helped by drawing with insufficient annotation. We are left to guess what materials are intended there is undoubtably an opportunity that with this scheme, is sadly missed. Signed Date 1/8/03 Summary of objections / views Recommendations Approved / Refuse Recommends refusal. Signed Date 1/8/03 Planning Report and Recommendations General Report Site Visited YES/NO 1. The site comprises the curtilage of an office building on Athol Street. 2. The building is modern, and, in itself, of limited attraction. 3. Proposed are (a) changes to the architectural treatment of the front elevation, and (b) changes to the rear, including repositioning of the air-conditioning units. 4. In the absence of any details of the finishes, the changes to the front are not easily assessed, but the resulting pattern of apertures would not fit in sympathetically with the discipline of the street Signed Date 30.7.03 Summary of objections/views as a whole. HA and LA - no objections Recommendations Approve/Refuse Refer to S. Moore. This is a potential C.A., and the judgment is essentially architectural. See S. Moore's report of 1/8. Refuse accordingly. Signed Date 2/8
