Dear Miss Callow,

### Application for Registered Building Consent

**Registered Building Number 66**
Stanley House, Castle Street, Castletown
Demolition of rear wall and outbuilding and the building of a substation.

We have viewed this application and are concerned over the termination of the top of the new wall facing the public car park. The plan seems to indicate a flat coping but there is no notation on the plan to indicate whether this is in concrete, limestone, York stone or whatever.

The wall should not be finished in this way in any event. The present wall appears from the photograph to be finished with a pointed hog's back and that's how this wall should be finished. The plan also shows a very wide verge where the roof of the proposed building meets the existing range of outbuildings. Whilst this may be part of the "new vernacular" created by Ellis Brown with the Archibald Knox pub it is not traditional and should be avoided.

Alterations to Registered Buildings should enhance them and not distract from their traditional form. The verge should either be a row of soldier bricks 230mm wide or a narrow band of cement 100mm wide.

Please ensure that these points are included in a revised plan for approval. Registered Buildings are special buildings and should be treated as such.

Yours truly,

Caseworker
