Permitted 17th May 2005 - 96/00132/B – Replacement UPV and aluminium doors. Permitted 5th June 1996. - 97/01888/B – Extension to school to create library, staff room, resources room and staff toilets. Permitted 31st May 1998. - 98/01369/B – Erection of school bell. Permitted 7th July 1999. - 01/02543/B – Infill extension to school. Permitted 26th April 2002. - 02/00946/B – Creation of additional door with ramped access to main hall. Permitted 26th September 2002. 05/92374/B – Construction of ramps and steps. Permitted 16th March 2006. ### Representations The Department of Transport Highways Division has not commented on this application. Peel Town Commissioners recommend that this application be approved. We have received no privately written representations in relation to this planning application. ### The Proposal This application seeks approval for the installation of replacement windows, improvements to the entrance steps and amendments to the approved entrance canopy. The canopy would consist of a flat roof fixed to the building and supported at the front by two metal upright pillars. The existing steps will be replaced with a flat platform and new steps. New railings will be constructed along the existing access ramp and will extend around the platform area at the main entrance. The existing school bell will be re-positioned. Also proposed is the installation of new PVC windows and doors at the main entrance (these are shown in green on the submitted plans). ### Assessment The proposal is considered to represent an improvement in terms of access to and from the building. The main considerations in assessing this application are the impact upon the existing building and the impact upon any adjacent properties and the surrounding area in general. It is considered that the entrance canopy and railings are well-designed and in-keeping with the existing building. The replacement windows would help to unify the principal façade of the school and as such would enhance the view from the main thoroughfare.
