Dear Ms. Callow,

SPMC&E VIEWS ON APPLICATIONS from WEEKLY LIST 2006/36-- List dated --14/09/06
SHEET 2 as sent Date of this response --13/09/06

[Table omitted in markdown export]

The Laxey & Lonan Area Plan (adopted) allowed one new dwelling here and this has been approved under 06/0721. As part of the 'bargain' the developer was to provide a public turning area. Has this been done, because the new application now seeking to build 2 more dwellings, seems to be including such a feature too?

That apart, this application is, or certainly should be, a complete non starter as going specifically against the Local Plan.

The Society VERY STRONGLY OBJECTS to what amounts to two new houses in the open countryside (it really is open hereabouts, on the crest of Clay Head!) and furthermore, just like the Local Plan allocation and 06/0721, setting a precedent for even more.

I seem to recall a history of conflict here, am I right? All I can find is 97/0641. The building looks very familiar though, but we see no real objection to the scheme as proposed.

The 'former settlement' is a total ruin and there is nothing to indicate that it even was a dwelling. (The 1860 OS Sheet might give a clue?)

However rebuilding is clearly outside the tenets of Cir 3/89 and the Society STRONGLY OBJECTS to what will amount to a new house in the countryside.

An original cottage much despoiled by extensions and alterations. A flat-roofed dormer up near the ridge-line and an over-scale bay window (quite suitable for a modern bungalow, but not a Manx Cottage) do nothing to make things better. They are both at the rear but nevertheless the Society OBJECTS
