### Officer's Report

#### Site / Proposal

The application proposes the erection of ramps and steps to provide disabled access to Kewaigue School, Kewaigue, Douglas. The property is a detached property north of the Kewaigue Hill. The site of the school has been zoned under the Douglas Local Plan Order 1998 as an area of buildings for civic, cultural or other special uses in this case a primary school.

The proposal includes the erection of a total of 2 large ramps and steps of various sizes around all of the existing entrances and exists around the school building which have not already benefited from the erection of ramps and steps. The ramps and steps will be formed in concrete and block work

with a cement render finish to expose face. The handrails, uprights and cross-rails will be 50mm galvanised steel.

### Consultations

The Douglas Corporation has considered the application and have no objection.

The Disability Access Office have submitted a comment stating that; care needs to be taken when laying the ramp and steps so it's not a hazard to passing pedestrians. The ramp needs to have hand rails on both sides etc. The nosings on the steps need to be highlighted. All information on this matter can be obtained from the Disability Access Office.

We have received no privately written representations objecting to the application.

### Assessment / Recommendation

The proposal will complete accessibility for the entrances and exits for the whole school complex, which should be encouraged. The proposals would seem to be appropriate in these locations and therefore my recommendation for an approval.

I consider that the following meet the criteria of Government Circular 1/06 and should be afforded interested party status:

The Douglas Corporation Disability Access Office
