Dear Sir

Re: PA 05 | 01928 | REM

In response to your letter dated 09.11.05, addressed to our architects, we trust that the attached explanation (Appendix) will satisfy your requirements.

Should it be necessary we could of course supply more detailed technical information from the various suppliers of manufacturers

Yours faithfully
In Roger Tomlinson

AND THE ENVIRONMENT

① Natural Solar Heat Gain

a) Large window areas (south east and southwest elevations) will facilitate this.

b) To optimise this benefit all windows will be double glazed with sealed argon, filled cavities and 'low-e' inner pores for heat conservation.

c) The design of the large south facing roof area will enable the fixing of solar panels to draw upon the free and inexhaustible energy of the sun.

② Insulation

a) Walls
i) It is intended to exceed the minimum requirements of the existing Building Regulations via the insulated cavity walls
ii) It is hoped to construct the inner cavity walls, at least, of 'Thermalite' type building blocks using the 'thin joint' method of construction in order to fully optimise the inherent thermal efficiency of the microcellular composition of the blocks
iii) It is understood that the exterior cavity walls may be constructed in the same way to further enhance heat retention. However further investigation will be necessary with the manufacturers

b) Design
i) Being designed for the sloping site the building will be partially sunk into the natural contours of the plot. This will have an insulating effect in the coldest north west elevation
ii) In addition this facade will have a low visual impact from the Dhoom Loop Road
iii) Smaller windows in this elevation minimise heat loss.

c) roof - 1) the design of the house requires that space in the roof be used for the bedroom area. A 'warm-roof' will be achieved through a very high standard of insulation by way of Stockwally Insulated Panels (SIPS) e.g. Kingspan

### Materials

a) roof to be finished in slate (natural product) or simulated slates made from re-cycled car tyres. We are investigating this product. b) windows to be manufactured using wood from sustainable resources. c) heating system - heat generation via a condensing boiler with the system being comprehensively controlled throughout the dwelling. d) whenever possible existing site materials will be re-cycled in the new build.
