been introduced between Braddan Hills and the Cronk Grianagh area. iv) The area to the south of Union Mills at Lhergy Cripperty. This is approved for residential use and is currently being developed v) An additional area to the south of Union Mills has also been approved for residential use and is currently being developed vi) An area at Snugborough has received a detailed approval for approximately 65 dwellings

5.4 WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AN AREA TO THE SOUTH OF CRONKBOURNE VILLAGE, IT IS FELT THAT NO FURTHER AREAS SHOULD BE RECOMMENDED FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ORDER TO AVOID ENCROACHMENT INTO AN ESSENTIALLY RURAL AREA.

5.5 THE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT ALLOCATION AT CAMLORK AND THE STRANG BE DELETED AND THE AREA REMAIN IN AGRICULTURAL USE. POLICY

5.6 IT IS RECOGNISED THAT THERE MAY BE SOME SCOPE FOR THE CONSOLIDATION OF HAMLETS BY A LIMITED DEGREE OF INFILL, AND THAT DETAILED STUDIES, INCLUDING THE PROVISION OF SERVICES INFRASTRUCTURE, SHOULD BE INITIATED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE DESIRABILITY OR OTHERWISE OF SUCH A POLICY. THE AREAS WHICH ARE PROPOSED FOR EXAMINATION ARE:

i) Mount Rule/Ballamillaghyn

ii) Strang

iii) Union Mills

iv) Oak Hill Cottages
v) Quine's Hill
vi) Ballaveare

NO DEVELOPMENT WILL BE PERMITTED IN SUCH AREAS UNTIL THE APPROPRIATE STUDIES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. THESE STUDIES WILL INDICATE FIRSTLY WHETHER ANY DEVELOPMENT SHOULD IN FACT OCCUR AND SECONDLY, IF DEVELOPMENT IS TO OCCUR THEN THE MANNER IN WHICH IT MAY OCCUR WILL BE FIRMLY LAID DOWN BY THE DEPARTMENT. ANY INTERIM APPROVALS OTHER THAN THOSE WHICH THE DEPARTMENT CONSIDER WOULD NOT PREJUDICE SUCH STUDIES. WOULD BE SEEN TO BE IN CONFLICT WITH THIS CONCEPT.

5.7 IF ANY DEVELOPMENT IS TO BE PERMITTED IN THE ABOVE AREAS, THEN PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE ARCHITECTURAL MERITS OF THE PROPOSAL IN ADDITION TO LOCATION AND MASSING.

5.8 RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF PLANNING CIRCULARS:
i) No. 1/88 (Revised) Residential Development - Houses in the Countryside
ii) No. 3/88 New Agricultural Dwellings
iii) No. 3/89 Renovation of Buildings in the Countryside
iv) No. 8/89 Low Density Housing in Parkland
v) No. 3/91 Guide to the Design of Residential Development in the Countryside. This is a separate publication in its own right.
