Dear Ms Callow

RECEIVED ON
**18 AUG 2005**
DEPT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT
AND THE ENVIRONMENT

PA No 05/01409: Erection of a statue of Captain Quilliam, Speakers Garden, Castle Rushen, The Quay, Castletown.

MNH wishes to record its support of the principle of commemorating Captain Quilliam, particularly during the bicentenary year of his involvement in the Battle of Trafalgar, and is, along with other Government Departments, playing a role in the celebration of the Year of the Sea / Sea Britain (of which the Trafalgar celebrations are a part) during 2005.

The application site is the property of Manx National Heritage, and is leased to the Castletown Commissioners. As landowners, the Trustees of MNH, who meet at monthly intervals, have not had an opportunity to consider the application. The Trustees next meet on 8th September, and will give consideration to both the detail of the proposals and to the siting of the monument on their land.

I would be grateful if you could bring this matter to the attention of the Planning Committee, and will write to you in due course following the Trust meeting on the 8th September to let you know the outcome of their deliberations.

Yours sincerely
