There is a small open yard to the north of the building, immediately adjacent to the Port Erin Gaslight and Aerated Waters Company shop which forms the immediate site for the condenser. ### Planning History The site has been the subject of the following applications: 02/01222/GB Erection of advertising signage - Application Permitted. 99/01206/GB Installation of replacement cash machine - Application Permitted 98/02139/GB Erection of CCTV dome - Application Permitted 92/00540/B Repairs to parapets and details of leadwork- Application Permitted ### The Proposal Proposed is the installation of an air conditioning condenser unit on the side elevation which abuts the Port Erin Gaslight and Aerated Waters Company shop. REPRESENTATIONS Castletown Commissioners 'approved' this application. ## Assessment The Barclays Bank is a Registered Building (RB 030) located within the Castletown Conservation Area. The content of this application has therefore been considered with particular consideration to POLICY RB/5 ALTERATIONS AND EXTENSIONS and Policy CA/2 SPECIAL PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS for Conservation Areas as set out within Planning Policy Statement 1/01. Given the use of the building as a bank, it is reasonable to expect that such mechanical and electrical paraphernalia are necessary for the proper function of the building and the business housed within. The size and location of the condenser unit is such that it will not be readily visible to members of the public from the public thoroughfare in The Parade or as viewed down Arbory Street or Malew Street. Given this location, this application is not considered to have a detrimental impact on the character of the Registered Building or the Conservation Area within which it is located and is therefore acceptable. ### Recommendation Recommend approval of this application. ### Party Status The Department of Transport and the local authority are, by virtue of the Town and Country Planning (Development Procedure) Order 2005, paragraph 6 (5) (c) and (d), considered "interested persons" and as such should be afforded party status.
