# Brief Planning Statement

## Extension And Alterations

At
TAMARISK
MAIN ROAD
KIRK MICHAEL
for
MR KEITH AND MRS ELAINE FITTON

### Brief Planning Statement

In 2013 Mr Fitton became a physically disabled person. He now uses a wheelchair but can walk short distances with two walking sticks. He requires a bungalow. Tamarisk will allow him to live on the ground floor and to avoid the routine use of stairs. Internally, he intends to make changes that 'future proof' the property as this is intended to be a 'forever home' for Mr and Mrs Fitton. Opening the 'flow' from the kitchen to lounge will make it much easier for Mr Fitton and building a wet room will meet his current and anticipated needs.
A standard size garage is too narrow for Mr Fitton, as he needs the vehicle door to be fully open in order to get in/out. He therefore wants to build a wider garage. By bringing the garage forwards, he will be able to go from the house to the vehicle, and vice versa, without getting wet if raining. Also, he can load/unload the wheelchair when required while remaining dry.
Mr Fitton's physiotherapist has said that walking in water is "the best possible exercise" that he can perform in his condition. Mr and Mrs Fitton therefore wish to build a pool that is a constant depth, so that he can walk in it daily. A small 'training pool', where the water circulates to offer resistance would not work as it would knock him off his feet due to poor balance, so the pool length is just sufficient for Mr Fitton the walk up and down daily to get sufficient exercise as part of an overall exercise regime.
Therefore the extent of the extension is a new pool room with toilet and shower, a new larger garage sufficient for a single car with manoeuvring room to one side, with a guest bedroom and en-suite with a roof terrace above the garage, for use by visiting family and friends. Internally the alterations include a new larger en-suite, and dressing room to the master bedroom, a larger utility room, and a new toilet upstairs in the craft room that was previously a bedroom.

### Conclusion

Mr and Mrs Fitton believe they have created their own 'forever home', and in doing so they have been respectful to their neighbours and created a sensitively designed extension that is appropriate in scale, massing and appearance for its locality. Mr and Mrs Fitton respectfully request that planning permission be granted for their application.
