## Planning report and recommendation ### General Report Site visited: no The site lies in a field to the south of the village of Maughold some 70 metres to the north of the Raad ny Foillan as it passes through the field from sea level at Port Mooar towards the Church. Proposed is the excavation of an existing mine shaft in this field the fitting of a reinforced concrete cap or plug, the shaft then recovered with soil and the surface reinstated to its original condition and appearance. The application suggests that as the existing shaft is obstructed with consolidated material (ie soil) there is no present opportunity for birds and/or wildlife to enter and use the shaft and as such there is not intention to permit such access once works are complete. In other cases, where mine shafts are open or where the works are proposed to a mine adit, metal grilles have been used to enable wildlife to carry on gaining access to the shaft. In this instance, this is not the case. Temporary access across the field from the A15, some 120 metres to the south west of the village green, will be required. The works are to take approximately 12–15 working days and on completion the access road and the shaft will be restored to their previous condition. A concrete marker post may be installed after the completion of works to enable future location of the shaft for the benefit of the Department of Trade and Industry and the land owner, Mr. Corkill. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the land owners and Manx National Heritage have all been consulted by the applicant and none of these parties has objected. ### Defer for Maughold Parish Commissioners comments. ### Summary of objections/views Maughold Parish Commissioners - OK DOT-OK.
